TECH UPDATE! - Microsoft Teams Introduces Spatial Audio
Microsoft Teams Introduces Spatial Audio
A downside to Microsoft Teams meetings is wanting to experience the conversation as if you were all in the same room. Get ready... as Microsoft is about to turn your audio world upside down.
It's introducing Spatial Audio, the next-generation immersive soundscape for Teams meetings. With either a wired stereo headset or built-in stereo speakers, this new feature could breathe new life into your virtual meetings.
Imagine this: each voice in your meeting is spatialised across the visual stage in Gallery view. That means it comes from a specific location, just the same as if you were having a meeting with someone sat to your left, and someone else to your right.
It's like each attendee has their own spot on the stage, making conversations feel more natural and easier to follow, especially when multiple people are speaking at once.
Turning on Spatial Audio is easy.
Before the meeting: Choose a wired stereo headset or built-in stereo speakers on the pre-join screen. You'll find the Spatial audio toggle under Device Settings -> Speaker.
During the meeting: Click More > Settings > Device settings, then select your audio device and flip on the Spatial audio toggle.
Anytime: Go to Settings and more > Settings > Devices and switch on Spatial audio.
Next time you're in a Teams meeting, try Spatial Audio. It's like having your own personal sound engineer ensuring you don't miss a beat (or a word).
And the next innovation? Can Teams make a round of coffee?
